Seemingly confirmed by a post from BitPay, payments provider Xsolla will start accepting Ripple Labs’ XRP token for payments in its supported games, including Roblox - an industry-leading gaming platform with reportedly more than 200 million monthly users.
BitPay itself, meanwhile, will help in streamlining the cryptocurrency wallet connection in the payments process for the game.
The significance of Xsolla/BitPay’s move cannot be overstated, with Roblox users amassing nearly $800 million in volume for in-game purchases in the first quarter of 2023 alone.
Perhaps strangely, however, the price of the XRP token appears to have been unaffected by the news. Indeed, the asset’s value has been in decline since the announcement was made in the early hours of October 17, having briefly spiked on the false ETF approval reported by Cointelegraph on October 16.
Following the news of XRP’s acceptance by the Roblox gaming platform, we are yet to see if the move will set precedents within the Web2-gaming world and encourage other platforms to seriously consider cryptocurrency payment functionality in turn.
