Decentraland (MANA), a virtual reality platform controlled by its users, will be officially launching on February 20.

According to the announcement, the February launch opens up the Decentraland metaverse to the public and establishes the Decentraland DAO, fully decentralizing the platform’s infrastructure.

“From now on, no single agent will have the power to modify the rules of the software, curate LAND content, modify the economics of MANA, upgrade the LAND smart contract unilaterally, or prevent others from accessing the world, among other decentralization features,” stated the Decentraland team.

To celebrate the launch, Decentraland will be hosting an in-world treasure hunt that will allow players to collect a variety of NFTs. The event will run for four days and take place in Genesis City, the first metropolis in Decentraland.

According to the launch video, more than 240,000 users have already signed up to explore the virtual world.
