The CEO of Twitter and Tesla, Elon Musk, is known for his outspoken nature and unconventional public image.

However, during a virtual conference in London hosted by the Wall Street Journal, Musk provided some thoughtful financial advice to cryptocurrency enthusiasts and Dogecoin fans.

Rather than actively endorsing crypto investments or encouraging large investments in Dogecoin, Musk stated, “I’m not advising anyone to buy crypto or bet the farm on Dogecoin.”

This cautious approach from Musk represents a slight departure from his previous actions, which have been colorful and legally controversial, aimed at boosting the token.

Dogecoin, created in late 2013, is widely regarded as the original meme coin—a cryptocurrency often used as a joke or speculative tool. As Dogecoin gained popularity (currently boasting a market capitalization exceeding $10 billion, with each coin valued at around seven cents), Musk joined the frenzy.

He even humorously referred to himself as the “Dogefather” during a sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Musk’s engagement with Dogecoin led to increased attention from its enthusiasts. Whenever he posted a picture of his dog or tweeted about the cryptocurrency (such as suggesting he would consume a Happy Meal if McDonald’s accepted Dogecoin as payment), the market capitalization of Dogecoin skyrocketed.

In April, Musk briefly changed the logo of the Twitter application from a bird to an image of a Shiba Inu, the dog breed featured in the Doge meme. This move resulted in a surge in the price of Dogecoin.

Musk’s repeated references and apparent support for Dogecoin have led investors to file a class action lawsuit against him, accusing him of orchestrating a scheme to inflate Dogecoin’s price.

Nevertheless, Musk continues to show his unwavering support for Dogecoin. During the conference, he stated that it remains his favorite cryptocurrency because of its humorous nature and the fact that “it has dogs.”
