One of the key BitTorrent dApps is due to launch in a testnet version soon. The BitTorrent File System (BTFS), a decentralized storage solution, will go live on July 1.
The launch of BTFS was previously scheduled for May 30, but apparently there were some delays in releasing the software to users. The platform allows files to be shared across a distributed network of nodes, like a decentralized cloud system. In this respect it is similar to Interplanetary File System (IFPS), the protocol behind Filecoin (FIL), but it has the brand recognition and established user base of BitTorrent.

Tron (TRX) founder Justin Sun partnered with BitTorrent Inc. as part of the project's implementation of blockchain technology, and BitTorrent's utility crypto token BTT will run on the TRX network . He describes IFPS as the first "truly viable and scalable" version of a decentralized storage system.

Just over a week after the testnet launch for IFPS, BitTorrent's BitTorrent Speed feature should be rolled out for the first time on July 8. This functionality will make use of BTT in order to improve the efficiency and speed of the BitTorrent network, incentivizing seeds to keep files active and allowing users to pay for faster access.
