It has been reported by Coindesk that the developers behind the cryptocurrency Grin, built for privacy out of the MimbleWimble format, have received a donation of 50 Bitcoin, roughly $300,000, from an unknown source.

Grin is a fairly new cryptocurrency, with its mainnet only being launched this January, that leverages the MimbleWimble protocol to offer what it claims are private and scalable transactions. The project was launched without an ICO and relies entirely on donations to operate. Apparently, somebody out there really believes in the project quite a bit, as just recently an anonymous donor gave the team 50 BTC, which is worth about $300,000 right now.

The news was shared recently at a meeting of the developers, with developer, Daniel Lehnberg going on the record as saying, to whomever donated:

"A really big and heartfelt thanks. We’ll ensure [we] put that to good use."

The team currently accepts donations in the form of Grin, Bitcoin, Ethereum and Zcash, but this is by far the most they have ever received at one time. Though the funds generated by donations are on the rise, before this gift the project still only had about $123,000 to work with. Now, that amount has increased significantly.

There is no way of knowing who donated the Bitcoin or why, but presumably it was someone with deep pockets who believes in the project. Will they come forward? Stick with Chepicap for all updates!
