The football star Lionel Messi has recently moved to French club Paris St. Germain (PSG) and this movement includes a payment in PSG fan tokens to him. With the recent trading of Messi from Barcelona, a surprising rally has been witnessed in the PSG tokens issued by PSG over a year ago.

Lionel Messi Moves to PSG, Shifting Includes Payment in Cryptocurrency Fan Token

Though the news of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona and joining PSG was devastating for the fans of both Barcelona and Messi, the crypto market is acting a bit differently.

Back in the month of January 2020, the Paris Saint Germain Fan Token was created in collaboration with Socios.com, the technology partner.

After its launch, the token was conceived as a high-tech way to build a new fan community, and the holders of the token were able to interact regularly with the football club through online polls.

On Tuesday, a bidding war broke out for acquiring PSG tokens, and the crypto community pushed the valuation up over twofold at one point.

This rally inspired by Messi is considered the latest window into the wild world of crypto trading and, certainly, this rally is not going to be the last of its kind.

Socios.com Cautioned Fans and Set Limits on the Purchase of Tokens

The partner of Paris Saint Germain, Socios.com, expanded its reach into the United States. At that time, it issued a warning on its site regarding the fan tokens, saying:

“The fan tokens are for entertainment purposes only and are not financial investment instruments.”

Well, it seems that the fans did not get the message from the warning, or they deliberately ignored the message.

Most recently, the supporters of English Premier League side Aston Villa stood against the plans of the club to launch their own token.
