Cardano’s much-anticipated Alonzo Purple upgrade has begun onboarding users to its testnet as per schedule, as revealed by the IOHK team on Twitter. This mark is the milestone event for the ADA community since it will be the first fully public Cardano testnet to support smart contracts.

The IOHK team also said that it’s been coordinating with crypto exchanges in preparation for the update to ensure that ADA holders can smoothly transition into Cardano’s smart contract era.
Full support for smart contracts on the network is expected to reach by the end of August or early September as confirmed by the IOHK team on Twitter:

Speaking of the update on Twitter, Cardano CEO and founder of IOHK Charles Hoskinson, said via a video on Twitter:
Alonzo will be the last stage of Cardano’s Goguen era that will make it possible to write smart contracts on the Cardano blockchain in the Plutus programming language.
