The eleventh update of the open-source decentralized blockchain platform Tezos (XTZ) is coming soon. It should take place on September 23rd. In an interview with Bloomberg, the platform's co-founder answered some of the major questions surrounding the event. Tezos co-founder Kathleen BREITMAN explained the difference between the next Tezos upgrade called Kathmandu and major upgrades like Merge Ethereum (ETH).

She noted that the update will go smoothly and without the use of a hard fork. Explaining the scope of Tezos updates, she said that her company has a distinct approach to innovation according to which regular upgrading allows updates to “happen piecemeal” and to avoid “boiling the ocean in one go.” She emphasized that the Kathmandu update introduces some concepts and some technical capabilities that are aimed at getting many more people to use the blockchain.

Regarding Tezos power consumption and carbon footprint, Breitman said that the blockchain has been using Proof-of-Stake (PoS) since 2018, which means it consumes much less energy and has a much lower carbon footprint than Proof-of-Work networks like bitcoin. At the time of writing, the Tezos XTZ token is trading at $1.50, according to CoinMarketCap.
