ShapeShift – the non-custodial cryptocurrency trading service announced on July 15 that it’s existence as traditional company is coming to an end through dissolution of it’s corporate structure and the service would now be maintained through a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), governed through the recently airdropped tokens to ShapeShift users, claimed by the company to be the largest airdrop ever.

These FOX tokens will be the governance token of the ShapeShift protocol now and the team has tried to widely distribute the token to it’s 1 million users plus other DeFi protocols participants. The FOX token now has increased governance and control powers. It has also been announced that the entire project will be made open source in the coming future.
ShapeShift FOX Tokens
FOX has a maximum supply of 1,000,001,337 tokens or 1 billion tokens, out of which 60% tokens have been airdropped to the community or reserved for it. Around 1.1 million addresses are eligible for the airdrop, which include 120,000 Gitcoin, Uniswap, SushiSwap, Yearn, Aave, Alchemix, 1inch, Curve, Balancer, 0x token and THORChain addresses, apart from 1 million ShapeShift users.
ShapeShift Token Distribution Criteria
Instead of airdropping a fixed amount, ShapeShift specified multiple criteria and a points based system for wide distribution and fair treatment, according to the level of participation. It’s based on the number of trades made on the platform, wallets registered with ShapeShift plus connected with the platform’s hardware wallet KeepKey, THORChain traders etc. A detailed explanation can be found here.
