That artificial intelligence (AI) could grow to overtake the human species might be an extreme eventuality, but as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin says, there’s a chance this happens and AI becomes the “new apex species.”
Ethereum co-founder on AI risks and “safer” path for humans
AI developments are pointing to a path that could see a new “mind” of its own emerge, the Ethereum co-founder and one of the leading figures in the crypto space said. Ultimately, it’s a scenario that could pose threats to humans, including extinction.
He said in a blog post on November 27:
“AI is fundamentally different from other tech, and it is worth being uniquely careful…it’s a new type of mind that is rapidly gaining in intelligence, and it stands a serious chance of overtaking humans’ mental faculties and becoming the new apex species on the planet.”
According to Buterin, a superintelligent AI might not keep any survivors if it went rogue. “Even Mars may not be safe,” he wrote. Researchers have estimated a 5-10% chance AI flips towards ending humanity.
AI adoption and integration continues
While he acknowledges the risks, Buterin sees a path forward that gives humanity the edge while still tapping into the vast potential of a super intelligent AI.
Rather than “pause AI”, a happy path to take – and one likely to lead to safety for humans amidst superintelligent robots is to merge the two via something like brain-computer interfaces (BCI). Other than that, humans can still steer AI in the right direction if they act with good intention.
But eventually, someone somewhere will build a true superintelligence. And no configuration that's just "humans using tools" can hold its own against that. And so, we eventually want to integrate with AIs more deeply. pic.twitter.com/kyQ6NN244t

The UK, US and several other countries recently signed an agreement on AI, calling for collaboration towards making the technology safer for people. This comes as adoption and integration of AI permeates nearly every sector of human life, from financial services, healthcare, supply chains, social media and travel.
Memeinator looks to tap into AI power
In the crypto space, projects are leveraging artificial intelligence for security, scalability and to improve on user experiences. Trading automation, data analytics, predictive modelling among others features are enhanced by AI.
Some of the top crypto projects currently tapping into AI are Render (RNDR), SingularityNET (AGIX), and Fetch.ai (FET). A new AI-powered project looking to break into the market is the Memeinator (MMTR).
The stated objective of this project is to purge crypto of useless and scam meme tokens that have proliferated the market amid excessive copying of Dogecoin.
With the meme culture at threat, the Memeinator is returned from the future to clean the mess. It seeks to achieve this by tapping into natural language processing, predictive analytics and machine learning among other AI tools.
Its AI-powered ecosystem includes a gamified assault on all weak memes (Memeinator Warfare game) and offers additional utility such as staking and NFTs for the community. This essentially is seen as setting Memeinator apart from the low or no utility copycats.
The Memeinator presale
The Memeinator aims to hit the $1 billion mark after its official launch in the market. Currently, it’s in presale with 85% of its 1 billion MMTR supply on offer to early birds. With crypto and AI dominating market sentiment, its likely investors might increasingly add this token to their positions.
There will be 29 stages of the presale, and just weeks into the offering, over $1.5 million has been raised as stage 7 draws to a close. Factors likely to bolster investors are the project team, clear tokenomics and roadmap.
If the token ends up on top exchanges as is the case with projects deemed to be innovative and with a robust community, the MMTR price could potentially surge to new highs from the final presale price of $0.049.
More on the Memeinator (MMTR) can be found on the project’s presale page.
