Grenada’s government has announced the nomination of Justin Sun as its next World Trade Organization Ambassador, located in Geneva. Sun, a prominent person in the cryptocurrency and blockchain sectors, is best known as the founder of TRON, one of the world’s biggest and most popular blockchain platforms. It was very early in his life that Sun became fascinated by the history of society as well as the politics of the world around him.

After graduating from Peking University, he pursued a master’s degree in the social sciences at the University of Pennsylvania after deciding to specialize in history. TRON was launched out of Sun’s desire to make blockchain and financial technology more accessible to the general public.

Caribbean Community (CARICOM), CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME), and Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are all where Grenada is the founding member.

Justin Sun said:

“It is truly an honor to serve as the WTO ambassador for Grenada,” he further added, “I look forward to the opportunity to represent Grenada and work with WTO leadership to reinvigorate global trade in various ways, particularly the development of a robust digital economy internationally.”

Global Financial Crisis

This comes at a time when the Covid-19 virus continues to spread over the world. According to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Covid-19 outbreak would lead goods trade to drop by 13-32%, which would be worse than the last downturn triggered by the global financial crisis of 2008-09.

A Covid-led tourism sector shutdown has severely hit Grenada and CARICOM. Sun’s expertise in the blockchain business is expected to provide fresh life to the regional economy.
