NEO Global Development (NGD) has announced that the NEO St. Petersburg Competence Center (NEO SPCC) will host a consensus node on the NEO TestNet. NEO SPCC was voted to the position on June 28th, 2019 and is best known in the NEO community for its development work on NEO’s upcoming distributed storage network, NeoFS.
NEO TestNet consensus node operators are required to successfully host and administer their node for a minimum of six months before being evaluated for MainNet election.
TestNet Decentralization
NEO Global Development notes that the NEO Foundation “will have fully distributed its [TestNet] responsibility” after the NEO SPCC addition. KPN, Swisscom, NEO Global Development, MatPool, City of Zion, Red4Sec, and NEOSPCC will operate the seven TestNet nodes.
MainNet Consensus Migration Paused
NGD noted that the promotion of TestNet nodes to NEO’s MainNet is temporarily suspended, as major development work and code changes are expected in the transition to NEO’s next iteration, version 3.0. According to NGD, “the TestNet to MainNet approval process will resume” when NEO3 is live.
NGD explicitly reaffirmed in the announcement that “It is the NEO Foundation’s intent to distribute the responsibility of maintaining each MainNet consensus node to other independent parties.”
