TikTok and Audius, a crypto-powered music streaming platform, teamed up to create a new feature called TikTok Sounds.

On Monday, Audius announced on its official Twitter account that it has integrated TikTok. According to Audius, the partnership allows users to share tracks directly from Audius to TikTok.

In addition, the music-sharing protocol said that the integration would let users export songs created with the protocol to TikTok with one click to streamline the process.

However, the integration with TikTok looks to be more about the music rather than pushing messages about the digital asset.

In a statement, Audius co-founder and chief product officer Forrest Browning said that about 95% of users “have no idea that blockchain is even involved.” This comes as Audius seeks to leverage blockchain technology to reward content creators. And also boost clarity on payouts to artists.

According to TikTok data shared in July, 75% of TikTok users based in the U.S. find new artists through the app. Yet, TikTok doesn’t allow users to receive special royalties from streaming music but rather gives chances for exposure and engagement with fans.

The partnership comes as a surprise, given that in July, TikTok banned crypto-based promotional content and “the promotion of all financial services and products.”
