MyEtherWallet phishing attack
The user accounts of MyEthereumWallet.com have been attacked by hackers. Thieves were posing as the site management members and sent email messages that persuaded the users to follow the link to the website. The link was actually to the fake version of the website, and after logging in the authentication form their personal data became intercepted. This one of the oldest hacking tricks (no less than 10 years old), but previously it was mainly used with the fiat banks and sometimes social networks. It’s called phishing.
A sum of fifteen thousand United States dollars in Ethereum was stolen in two hours. The media notes that once, in a similar heist, a hacker returned 3 of 7 million dollars of stolen ETH to CoinDash, but we clearly shouldn’t expect mercy from criminals in this case.
Our website strongly recommends to always double check all suspicious email messages and hyperlinks – this “paranoia” can actually save your funds in case of future phishing attacks.
