NASDAQ CEO Adena Friedman: Bitcoin ETFs require deep analysis before implementation

13 February 2018 21:00, UTC

Recently Adena Friedman, head of the major American NASDAQ stock exchange, has expressed her views on Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, or ETFs. As she told during the World Government Summit in Dubai, the cryptocurrency market is not transparent and not fair to all participants, while this parameter is absolutely crucial when it comes to the baskets of prices ETFs are.

NASDAQ’s Nordic markets already use another security backed by the market index - Bitcoin ETNs or exchange-traded notes. Adena Friedman implies that this type of securities is actually developing well.

When asked about the United States markets, the CEO of NASDAQ has demonstrated her doubts on the opportunity of Bitcoin ETFs on the American exchanges, as regulators need to deeply assess if the market could be made fair for all and if this asset becomes really viable in the future. In other words, they need to know if it’s worth implementing in the first place.

Bitcoin ETFs were also once mentioned in the interview of experienced investor known as “Mr. ETF”, Reginald M. Browne, who told that this type of exchange-traded funds was absolutely not going to be listed on American exchanges in the near future.
