Mining can provide bail funds for poor thanks to this new project

According to at least two media websites, a very interesting project related to cryptocurrency mining has been launched lately. The Bail Bloc initiative wants to “weaponize excess computing power against the Prison Industrial Complex”. In order to help those who cannot afford bails and simply remain incarcerated, one has to download the special software that takes a bit of computing power (10% of the CPU energy, according to the reports) and mines coins.

The choice of Monero in this case was dictated by the fact that unlike Bitcoin, Monero mining is less energy-demanding. The project is part of a wider initiative to help American people who have not yet been convicted and remain in custody, while the rich ones easily get out. The situation is also grim for those who have no relatives that might help in this situation.

Monero has been used in connection with crime before, but until this project, this connection did not improve its reputation at all. The currency has very good anonymization tools and this allows criminals to hide tracks during money laundering, and the easy mining feature helps the creators of malicious advertisement that is sometimes injected on popular websites in order to infect the visitors so that their PCs start mining cryptocurrency for hackers.
