White House on Petro: Maduro’s just stealing from his citizens again
Francisco Palmieri who works at the State Department of the United States has left a message on his Twitter regarding Petro, the initiative of Nicolas Maduro, current leader of Venezuela:
The #Petro digital currency is another attempt to prop up the #Maduro regime, loot the resources of the Venezuelan people, and mask the country’s hyperinflation and collapse of the Venezuelan Bolívar. Buyer beware. #Venezuela
— Francisco Palmieri (@WHAAsstSecty) February 23, 2018
Notably, this statement contains very sharp notions about the work of the authorities of Venezuela. The messages coming sources of Bitnewstoday in Venezuela, however, leave an impression that the words of this official are not very far from the truth. For example, the police of Venezuela sometimes raids the houses of miners, confiscates the equipment and reportedly just uses it for their own benefit afterwards.
Meanwhile, one of the notable cryptocurrency market figures, Ari Paul, CIO of BlockTower Capital, tells that the narrative of conservatives towards cryptocurrency might change from “this is the tool of drug lords” to “this is the tool of oppressive totalitarian regimes”.
Speaking of which, the authorities of Uzbekistan, whose previous leader ruled from 1989 to 2016, are planning to develop cryptocurrency and blockchain legislation. These laws are not entirely prohibitive, reports suggest.
