Tesla Amazon account hacked, cloud mining used

20 February 2018 21:00, UTC

An unknown hacker group is responsible for a relatively new way of remote mining. The malefactors simply hijack the resources of corporate cloud services. Using the breach in the Kubernetes structure, they have managed to unlawfully use the resources of Tesla, one of the automobiles of which is currently heading towards Mars.

The hackers used the CloudFlare service to hide the mining pool address, cybersecurity experts found out. Those intruders also used the non-standard network port and this also increased their stealth capabilities. In another case already described by Bitnewstoday, Android debug port 5555 has served as a backdoor entrance for a different criminal group.

The observers focusing on cybersecurity note how the focus of hackers changed over time. Previously, a hacker group that has successfully breached Tesla accounts would steal information, and now it’s the computational power being the main goal.

Experts from RedLock have already informed Tesla about this breach which led to its full closure, as reported in the recent blog post of this anti-hacker organization.
