Québec government to limit energy supply for miners instead of total ban
The governing authorities of Québec have proposed new limitations for miners of the Canadian province. Cryptocurrency-producing hardware owners will only have 500 megawatts of the total energy the region gets, the price for consumption will be increased by 1 cent per kilowatt hour or even more. The total time of mining will have become limited to 300 hours per year. Additionally, the authorities are to measure the number of jobs created after each megawatt.
These limitations may drive out those companies who are used to less strict rules, even though the representatives of Hydro-Québec told about the economic usefulness of blockchain sphere in the past. Miners have previously requested 17,000 megawatts of energy share.
The mining of digital currency in Québec has become difficult these days, as the situation with the regulations on the theme cannot be called stable. The government has lifted a ban on this activity at the beginning of this month, and several days later, miners had to turn off their rigs and hangars full of GPUs again.
Meanwhile in the United States, separate regions start to limit mining as well, although the pressure is notably lower. The measure is driven by the concerns which also likely motivate the officials of Québec - big demand drives the price up, thus harming regular consumers.
