Moscow issues arrest warrant against Alexander Vinnik
The Ostankino District Court in Moscow has issued an arrest warrant against Alexander Vinnik. Both the U.S. officials and Russian Federation civil servants suspect him of money laundering. This person is currently held in custody in a Greek prison (he was on a vacation in this country).
Recently Mr. Vinnik has decided to abandon the idea of total denial of allegations and wrote a confession to the Russian General Prosecutor’s office. Contradictory to older reports, he now also tells that Americans offered him a deal.
BTC-e was one of the biggest digital currency exchanges focused on the Russian audience, which was evident when it went offline. The management was poor even by the standards of other digital currency exchanges, as the customers’ community didn’t know what happened for at least 24 hours. The exchange has been transformed into WEX which operates to this day.
An interesting report regarding the past of Alexander Vinnik has been made by the Russian financial outlet: looks like that before cryptocurrencies became mainstream, this man has committed questionable financial activities through electronic money payment systems (WebMoney and its Russian equivalents).
