Malta to develop blockchain

18 September 2017 21:00, UTC

The government of Malta starts the development of the national blockchain strategy. To ensure the good development performance, a special work group has been established.

This group will look into proposals and plan the recommendations for the roadmap that will ensure the best use of blockchain in the state sector.

Vincent Muscat, the Permanent Secretary for the Parliamentary Secretariat, will head the group. According to the Malta Independent outlet, the group will also have Steve Tendon (Blockchain Expert), Dr Ian Gauci (Legal Expert), Joseph Cuschieri (MGA Executive Chairman), Loui Mercieca (Blockchain Expert), Wayne Grixti (MITA Enterprise Architect), Carlo Stivala (Finance Expert), and Mario Borg (Economist) as participants.

Malta aims to create a friendly environment for innovative blockchain startups. The Prime Minister of the country even said that cryptocurrencies are here to stay and there’s no sense blocking them.

It would be interesting to know what Cyprus, another small island state known for its financial connections with the rich companies and businessmen of the world, will decide to do with cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
