Lisk normal work suffered from malicious transaction

04 June 2018 21:00, UTC

The blockchain of Lisk has seen a malicious transaction verified by the system, even though there were several alerts on its anomalous nature. The team responsible for this blockchain project had to disable all transactions in order to minimize the consequences of this incident. This all happened on Saturday, June 2 2018 and the information on the event was disclosed by the CEO of Lisk in a Reddit post the same day.

This malicious activity was not a 51% attack. Despite this fact, someone has intercepted control over the entity which can make important decisions which can potentially be harmful for the network. In this case, at least one of 101 delegates has not been playing fair. These delegates are elected by the altcoin community and have more power than usual traders.

Attacks on cryptocurrencies are becoming one of the trends of the season, with several known altcoins suffering big financial losses. In this case, the market consequences are less direct. Apparently, hackers did not manage to steal anything, but as it always happens with digital currencies, the news on these troubles have affected the price of the altcoin in the short term. According to the press, it lost 10% in 24 hours.
