John McAfee submits to SEC complaints

18 June 2018 21:00, UTC

Creator of the McAfee antivirus program and businessman John McAfee has decided to follow the instructions of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, as evidenced by his recent tweet on the topic:

The response has been made to a user who asked for a new advice on ICO investments. The whole situation would not have been so remarkable if John McAfee was a businessman with a regular public relations strategy. Instead, Mr. McAfee prefers to be pompous about everything he does - including his initial decision not to listen to what the SEC has to say.

Looks like that the fight has ended, but this is not the first time McAfee contradicts himself. For example, once he called Monero “a greatest thing since sliced bread”, and several months later openly supported the rival cryptocurrency Bitcoin Private.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission has never shown enthusiasm towards ICO celebrity promotion. The main motive is the following: when unregistered securities enterprise (an ICO) is being advertised, those who do so become unregistered brokers in the eyes of the law enforcement. They are also likely wary of the situation which happened to Paris Hilton last year when it became apparent that one of the founders of the ICO she endorsed was involved in domestic violence, as the press found out.
