Jeff Sessions concerned with the use of Bitcoin in the Dark Web
Jeffrey Sessions, U.S. Attorney General, has mentioned Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market in one of his latest speeches. He is not satisfied that cryptocurrency is often used by the Dark Web users.
He called it a “big problem” and called financial transactions of cryptocurrency “untraceable”. Later, to explain the scale of the problem, he described the goods bought and sold one of closed platforms. Weapons, drugs, fake identifications and contract killers were offered on AlphaBay.
The first-world law enforcement, while not suggesting forbidding cryptocurrency altogether, is clearly concerned with the new threat of anonymization of criminals. Apart from the United States, Australian officials are also well-aware of cryptocurrency as a hiding method. European law enforcers, while not as vocal, might be doing something to combat illicit finance too.
