Al Kelly, CEO of Visa, said the financial services company plans to allow the purchase of bitcoins using Visa credentials. Kelly's latest announcement came after Mastercard revealed its cryptocurrency plans in February.

During a conversation for the Fortune's Leadership Next podcast, the head of Visa said the company plans to work with bitcoin wallets. In February 2021, Visa announced a partnership with First Boulevard, a digital neobank focused on generating generational wealth for the black community, to accelerate the company's efforts to enter the crypto market.

Visa's competitor Mastercard announced earlier this year that the company plans to accept bitcoins and other cryptocurrency assets in 2021. Raj Dhamodharan, Executive Vice President of Blockchain and Digital Partnerships at Mastercard, mentioned in an official announcement that the company will focus on consumer protection and adherence to cryptocurrency choices.
