Tor Project, a non-profit organization that develops technologies for open source privacy and anonymity, has included Monero in the list of cryptocurrencies accepted as donations. The primary responsibility of the project is to preserve the anonymity of the Tor network. Considering Monero (XMR), Tor Project currently takes nine cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Dash, Ethereum (ETH), Augur (REP), ZCash (ZEC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

The project has created its own direct wallets for all of the cryptocurrencies mentioned above. This allows users to donate crypto directly to the Tor Project instead of relying on services provided by third parties, such as BitPay, the Bitcoin payment service provider.

Moreover, Sarah STEVENSON, the Fundraising Director of the Tor Project, wrote on Twitter that the foundation would move away from BitPay if people stop using it. She also stated that she considers the Lightning Network as one of the alternatives.
