Tesla-based mining rig is not a good idea

28 November 2017 21:00, UTC

Reports suggest that one of the owners of the popular yet expensive Tesla electric car has built a cryptocurrency mining rig that uses the power resources of this automobile. However, the contributor to Motherboard quickly found out that the supposed rig on the photo hints that the author just wanted to joke about it, as the construct does not look like it was actually used for the stated purpose.

However, the observer decided to review the possibility — what if it’s worth it? Turns out it is not. Even someone manages to build a rig of sixteen video cards that are not very power demanding, then this Ethereum-mining rig would only cover the cost for power used to charge Tesla. This means that the owner of such a rig would be stuck in a preposterous loop: he would mine to get more coins for power and get power to mine more coins he can only spend for mining power again.

This also means that Tesla is not a good way to mine cryptocurrency, although it remains a perspective alternative for gasoline engines which even today, with more strict ecological standards, continue to pollute the atmosphere.
