Telegram’s TON technology description posted online

14 January 2018 21:00, UTC

Rumors on the Telegram’s team planning to introduce its own blockchain and, possibly, cryptocurrency as well, are circulating on the Internet since the advent of this year. In addition to the white paper already described by various media outlets, including Bitnewstoday, a new document telling about the technological side of the project has been posted online. If this is not fake - and there is a reason to believe it is not, judging by the truthful technical details simply incomprehensible for people who usually make fakes - then soon the cryptocurrency community is going to see the blockchain designed for the online messenger called Telegram, and quite a sophisticated one:

“It is designed to be the first fifth-generation blockchain project—that is, a BFT PoS-multichain project, mixed homogeneous/heterogeneous, with support for (shardable) custom workchains, with native sharding support, and tightly-coupled (in particular, capable of forwarding messages between shards almost instantly while preserving a consistent state of all shardchains). As such, it will be a truly scalable general-purpose blockchain project, capable of accommodating essentially any applications that can be implemented in a blockchain at all. When augmented by the other components of the TON Project, its possibilities expand even further.”

Another notable concept in the document is the theoretical possibility to move Facebook on the blockchain, but Dr. Nikolai Durov, Telegram’s CTO, brother of Pavel Durov and alleged author of the document, himself thinks this will be too price-consuming and for this reason, will never be done. In Telegram, however, the users will soon be able to open their own wallets, “soon” meaning the second quarter of 2019. The Gram token supply will be 5 billion. According to the previous whitepaper we have seen, the team views this token as a means of exchange of value for regular people rather than the digital asset Bitcoin has become.

This particular whitepaper is available on various Telegram channels, but Bitnewstoday decided to make a copy on Google Drive.
