The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is exploring the possibility of issuing its own utility token in order to generate income from tourists in cryptocurrency. TAT is in talks with the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission for the issuing of TAT Coin and is weighing the regulatory and technical and economic aspects of such a project.

According to the department's governor, Yuthasak Supasorn, Thailand needs to prepare its digital infrastructure as well as digital literacy for travel operators as it is related to cryptocurrency.

TAT plans to develop the country's travel platform covering both business and leisure tourism through Bitkub, a local cryptocurrency exchange that will use TAT Coin or other types of cryptocurrencies such as NFT.
