Starbucks: blockchain gives more opportunities and digital currencies are interesting

28 January 2018 21:00, UTC

Reports from several media outlets tell about one of the high-ranking managers of Starbucks, a popular coffee house chain, who expressed interest towards both cryptocurrency and blockchain. And while he indeed did this, it is important not to view these messages as a signal that Starbucks is rushing to accept Bitcoin as soon as possible.

In fact, Howard Schultz tells he himself does not believe that Bitcoin would become a currency neither in the near nor far future. As for the blockchain, payments and cryptocurrency in general, he explained:

“I’m not bringing this up because Starbucks is announcing that we are forming a digital currency or we’re investing in this. I’m bringing this up, because as we think about the future of our company and the future of consumer behavior, I personally believe that there is going to be one, or a few, legitimate trusted digital currencies off of the Blockchain technology.”

These precautions in his speech made recently show how the corporate management of Starbucks is aware of sensationalist headlines and wants to prevent the dissemination of headlines in which the company embraces Bitcoin or decides to immediately implement its own altcoin.
