Despite the terrible situation in Spain caused by COVID-19, tax authorities are not going to cancel taxes for crypto companies at all. The Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Estatal de Administracion Tributaria or AEAT), began sending notifications on April 1. The country's tax authority will continue to notify taxpayers until June 30.

Last year, the Spanish Tax Agency sent 14,700 notifications to crypto investors. This year their number has grown to 66,000. The rapid growth indicates an increased interest in digital assets from Spanish citizens.

In 2018, the agency already requested data related to the cryptocurrency users from companies. At that time, these were financial firms, intermediaries, such as cryptocurrency exchanges and ATMs, as well as companies that accept digital assets as a payment.
