According to an announcement from Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (LBUS), the university plans to implement cryptocurrency payment methods for more than 11,000 students starting in July. It is reported that students will be able to pay for admission, which is approximately $1,000 a year, with the help of Elrond (EGLD). The university will then transfer the digital asset to the Romanian leu.

University rector Sorin RADU said:

“Our university has been and will continue to be a supporter of the community and local business, and the decision to develop this partnership with Elrond is part of this strategy”.

Recall that the developers of the Elrond project carried out an initial exchange listing on Binance Launchpad in 2019. Elrond has offices in the Transylvanian town of more than 400,000 people and has a team of graduates from the local university. The project stated that in the future it is planned to continue cooperation with LBUS, including joint research.

Elrond has seen some significant changes recently, including a mainnet swap last year when the ERD token became EGLD. At the time of writing, the price of EGLD is $222, the token price has dropped by 2% in the last 24 hours.
