The City of Philadelphia is enthusiastically considering a partnership with CityCoins. Previous cities such as Miami, Austin and New York City have joined the project. In a January 31 tweet, Philadelphia CIO Mark WHEELER stated that Philadelphia is ready to cooperate with CityCoins.

In an interview on February 1, Wheeler indicated that the city would begin a formal review of CityCoins to ensure that any potential partnership they enter into together complies with existing crypto-related laws. Speaking about environmental issues, Wheeler noted that CityCoins does not require users to use additional equipment that can harm the environment.

Miami launched its MiamiCoin (MIA) with CityCoins last August to help the city raise funds that Mayor Francis SUAREZ said could be used to cover all of the city's residents' tax burdens. New York City launched NYCCoin (NYC) in partnership with CityCoins last November. As with MiamiCoin, NYCCoin miners are rewarded with STX and BTC for supplying the city with tokens. Austin, Texas has entered into a partnership with CityCoins, but mining has yet to begin.
