This spring, Norwegian Air, one of the largest European low-cost airlines, plans to start accepting cryptocurrency for paying for booking tickets.

This initiative was announced by Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX) CEO Stig KJOS-MATHISEN in an interview with Dagens Næringsliv local outlet last week. NBX is a cryptocurrency exchange and payment system whose goal is to transform the aviation industry using innovative financial instruments.

Norwegian Air is the largest airline in all of Scandinavia and the third largest low-cost airline in Europe. First of all, integration between the exchange and the airline became possible due to the fact that the organizations are partially owned by members of the same family — the founder and former CEO of Norwegian Air is Björn KJOS, who participated in the foundation of the exchange in 2018 himself.

NBX has reportedly succeeded in beta testing and has been open to public use since January. In the near future, it will be fully integrated with Norwegian Airlines, however, the list of supported digital currencies has not yet been confirmed.
