No bitcoin blockchain segregation

31 July 2017 21:00, UTC

BIP 148, or the user-activated soft fork, was successfully launched in the night between 31 July and 1 August. Fears about possible division of Bitcoin blockchain proved to be untrue.

With this outcome, bitcoin’s value has demonstrated a considerable growth. At the time of publication, the data from Coinmarcetcap.com shows that one bitcoin equals 2,893.30 USD, or grown by 5.38% since the last 24 hours. During the last 2 hours there was a rise to 2,900 USD.

It should be reminded that the BIP 148 upgrade proposal is planned to be the first step on the road to Segregated Witness (SegWit) protocol activation, it should improve the scalability of the whole Bitcoin network, increase the speed of transaction approval and minimize transaction fees. The final fixation of SegWit should happen around 8 August 2017, the SegWit regulations implementation is anticipated from 21 to 24 August.
