New theory about Satoshi Nakamoto: it’s Elon Musk

26 November 2017 21:00, UTC

Sahil Gupta, who formerly worked at SpaceX, suggests that the leader of the company, Elon Musk, might be Satoshi Nakamoto, an anonymous programmer who created Bitcoin. He cements his position by saying that firstly, Satoshi Nakamoto and Elon Musk are both tech geniuses and both use C++ in their work (here it’s better to remind that there are many C++ savvy programmers in the world), someone who created Bitcoin has passion for the global problems just like Elon Musk (Bitcoin was first mentioned in the year of the global financial crisis), and he stayed silent in comparison to other market members on the theme, while posting a strange tweet once (might be a joke):

And, lastly, Musk does not have any problem with money, and this corresponds with the fact why Satoshi Nakamoto, owning a vast sum of BTC, is still not withdrawing it now that the price is nearly 10000 dollars.

However, there are some problems with this theory. In the year 2008, it was the time for Musk to think about how to survive a financial crisis, not on how to benefit the world by writing a cryptocurrency. As observers also note, if Musk invented it, he would have told this long ago and started a debate with people like Jamie Dimon who consider Bitcoin to be a fraud.

It’s also worth mentioning that Elon Musk’s figure is somewhat overhyped: the fanbase sometimes implies he invented electric cars, while actually he managed to find the right people to finetune the concept dating back to the previous century. His Hyperloop project leaves questions on tunnel boring, because Musk offers vast underground train tunnels which might take years to build, but he talks about them like they are just around the corner. The assumption about him developing Bitcoin, while it has the right to exist, must be met with skepticism.
