The IOTA Foundation has teamed up with British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, European chipmaker STMicroelectronics, and EDAG, RIDDLE & CODE, NTT DATA Romania, ETO GROUP and BiiLabs to launch IOTA Access. The first alpha version of IOTA Access v0.1.0-alpha was released yesterday.

IOTA Access is an open source platform for building pay-per-use access control systems. IOTA Access is designed to provide special access control “for any machine, device and building” in a decentralized manner without the need for a permanent Internet connection.

Despite the wide range of use cases, the product will initially target the automobile industry. For example, software must allow consumers to remotely access and control vehicles. According to Dominik SCHIENER, co-founder of IOTA, the product will be installed on Jaguar vehicles as the British auto manufacturer has a long-standing partnership with IOTA.
