Nevermind: Microsoft brings back Bitcoin payments

10 January 2018 21:00, UTC

Microsoft has lately disabled the option to pay with bitcoins on its marketplace platform, and some must have thought the company decided to abandon this function. It seems, however, that the company really had some problems connected with the mechanism and managed to fix them in a relatively short period of time.

The media notes that the company had already disabled this function in 2015 and 2016, always bringing it back afterwards. Steam, another platform which sells computer games, has also done it recently, and unlike Microsoft, those responsible for Steam payments had not reopened this opportunity since then. But what connects these two companies is the reason they disabled payments in Bitcoin: both stated that the currency had become too volatile, which hampered the normal work of the payment systems clearly designed for lower prices.

Meanwhile, many more marketplaces still do not have this function, even including Amazon. There were rumors about this platform planning to accept bitcoins during the autumn of the past year, but there has not been any confirmation or leak regarding this matter. If Amazon really develops anything connected with Bitcoin, they are very secretive about this.
