15 April 2019 13:44, UTC
The food industry giant Nestle, the Carrefour supermarkets and IBM have teamed up to introduce the blockchain into a supply tracking system, as reported in a press release on April 15.

Nestle and Carrefour are members of the IBM Food Trust blockchain platform, and starting from today, they will use this technology to track the supply chain of Mousline, a well-known brand of instant mashed potatoes. Buyers will be able to scan a QR code to find out where the potatoes came from, and track its entire path to the Carrefour store.
“Using the QR code on the product’s packaging, each consumer will be able to use a secure platform on their smartphone to access information on the production supply chain, including the varieties of potato used, the dates and places of manufacture, information on quality control, and places and dates of storage before the product reaches the shelves,”
— the press release confirms. Food manufacturers from all around the world are already using blockchain in their supply as the industry niche grows, and that is the reason why major market players keep up with trends.
