Moscow Parliament to implement blockchain in voting systems

22 October 2017 21:00, UTC
“Fifty years later, blockchain will definitely replace the election committees. In the next 10-15 years, a hybrid structure with blockchain elements can be implemented in Moscow.”
This is not some usual blockchain evangelist speaking, these were the words of the Chairman of Moscow Municipal Duma (the Russian capital’s parliament). This is one of the most recent statements of the Russian officials on the blockchain technologies, and while there is still a big controversy between ministries about how exactly cryptocurrency market should be regulated, we have not seen any strict blockchain and distributed ledger opponents yet.

According to Chairman Shaposhnikov, blockchain will undoubtedly solve the problem of voting secrecy in possible future electronic voting environments. Previously, the authorities of Moscow have decided to experiment with blockchain in real estate deals, and the federal government, in turn, is now considering the issue of state-backed cryptocurrency.

Another latest proposal coming from the Deputy Minister of Labour: to make a new Cryptocurrency Specialist Day, as the sphere is actively developing and it should be recognized on the state level.
