Microsoft to stop Bitcoin payments

09 January 2018 21:00, UTC

Microsoft decided to stop all operations related to the most popular cryptocurrency of our time, Bitcoin. Initial messages on social networks and technology websites were later fully confirmed by the major outlets and cryptocurrency media. According to the screenshots provided on Reddit, the representatives of the company decided to simply tell about some unspecified obstacles they meet while operating with such payments. However, it’s wise never to exclude the possibility of fake.

Meanwhile, the sources of the media in Microsoft tell that the reason of this halt has been this extreme volatility of Bitcoin, unseen before 2017. This fully corresponds with the motive of the decision of Gabe Newell’s team to halt similar payments on Steam, the platform which allows to play and buy computer games.

Microsoft is one of the leaders in the latest blockchain projects, but such projects are not connected with cryptocurrency or Bitcoin in particular. They might add some other, more stable cryptocurrency once it becomes popular enough as a means of payment. Bitcoin has been a precedent which shows that this company can do so if the market demands.
