Microsoft’s blockchain: more news and more supporters

20 August 2017 21:00, UTC

Microsoft, an American digital company thanks to which we have Windows and other modern computer software technologies in case somebody forgot or didn’t know, has lately announced that it is currently developing an innovative solution that will increase speed and improve security of blockchain networks. This solution is named Coco Framework. Since that announcement, some additional information regarding the project appeared in the media.

It became known to public how fast exactly this blockchain is going to be: Coco Framework will be able to process over 1,600 transactions per second. Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum chains cannot do this yet. Would be curious to see how this innovation is going to change the shape of the cryptocurrency market.

The TEE, or trusted execution environment technology, is another innovation this new blockchain is going to contain: the chain code is going to be hosted in a special secure storage. The latter will have Intel Software Guard Extensions or Windows Virtual Secure mode enabled. This will ensure trustworthy validation. Microsoft’s cloud service, Azure, will also be used by this framework.

The technology is already attracting some big and respected supporters, among which are Intel, R3 and JPMorgan Chase. Quite possibly, this interest is explained by this new blockchain’s speed of operations and modified security. Intel’s representative, Rick Echevarria, the vice president of Software, Services Group and General Manager, Platforms Security Division, expressed his employers’ support of blockchain in general and this technology in particular. As cited by Bitcoinist: “Intel is committed to accelerating the value of blockchains powered by Azure on Intel hardware, by improving the scalability, privacy, and security of the solutions based on our technologies.”
