Microsoft Announced A Feature To Block Malware Mining

The tech giant Microsoft has taken steps to protect users of its Edge web browser from malware. On Thursday, the company announced on its blog that it had added a feature that would detect and prevent the download of “potentially unwanted applications” (PUAs), such as cryptojackers or malicious adware.

As known, crypto jackers use the code, hidden on websites or downloaded to user devices, to utilize the computing power for cryptocurrencies’ mining. As a result, they consume the victim's electricity to complete mining tasks.

A new feature is available in Edge since the version 80.0.338.0. Referring to its new miner blocking feature, Microsoft said:

"Our goal is to assist users in getting the apps they want, while empowering them to maintain control over their devices and experiences."

It is also worth noting that, according to a recent study by the School of Science & Statistics, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, the privacy-oriented Brave web browser was declared the “most confidential browser” among other more well-known browsers, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and others.
