MAST concept resurfaces after successful SegWit implementation

11 September 2017 21:00, UTC

In a recent letter to the Bitcoin development team, the co-founder of Blockstream Mark Friedenbach has presented the source code of three proposals. They don’t have any identification numbers yet. These three proposals will improve the BIP network and then it will become possible to implement the MAST (Merkelized Abstract Syntax Trees) update.

Proposals by Mr. Friedenbach, if approved, will be implemented smoothly, no hard-fork will occur, and the speed of Bitcoin transactions will improve even more. This update will open up some new opportunities for market participants: the users will be able to set transaction conditions. For example, they can set the exact time after which the coins will become unlocked for spending, or turn on the mutual approval of both transaction parties to use the money somewhere else after the initial transaction.

Experts note: now that the SegWit protocol is implemented, this relatively old concept can be discussed again.
