DOGE-1, the first crypto-funded mission to the moon, kicks off in early 2022 following a partnership between the two blockchain companies and Geometric Energy Corporation, also known as GEC.

On Wednesday Unizen and DeFi incubator ZenX announced that they are in the process of building and launching DOGE-1, a 40kg cubesat that will provide a new use case for cryptocurrencies. Cubesat will travel to "stable lunar orbit" to retrieve data on lunar space from sensors and cameras, which will be sent back to the GEC for analysis.

The Dogecoin-funded project was first unveiled in May this year with a planned launch date as early as Q1 2022. SpaceX's vice president of commercial sales, Tom OCHINERO, said the mission will demonstrate the use of cryptocurrency beyond Earth orbit and lay the foundation for interplanetary commerce.
