French fashion brand Lacoste has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) collection that it says aims to create an online community and a new way to interact with customers. The NFT release comes just a week after the brand launched a Discord server that reached 30,000 subscribers in the first two days, the company said.

The number of NFTs in the issue, 11,212, refers to the brand's signature polo shirt called L1212. These NFTs will be sold for 0.08 ETH (approximately $97) apiece. Called UNDW3 (pronounced underwater), the project will provide NFT collectors with access to a "long-term collaborative community," Lacoste said in a press release.

Lacoste previously tested Web3 capabilities by teaming up with Minecraft to develop Croco Islands, a virtual world that provides unique gaming experiences. In addition to the Metaverse experience, the collaboration resulted in a special clothing collection.
