Kaspersky's recently released cyber threat forecast for 2021 predicts an increase in the use of the anonymous coin Monero (XMR) by hackers next year.

The crypto community has faced a number of cybercrimes perpetrated by hackers using Monero (XMR). In early 2020, it was reported that a group of hackers had resumed their criminal activities with more advanced and updated instruments. The goal of the hackers is to destroy existing mining software and at the same time take over the power of computers to mine anonymous coins.

Currently, the crypto industry has implemented technical capabilities to monitor, deanonymize and seize BTC accounts. As a result, cybercriminals will begin to consider switching to transit cryptocurrencies to collect fees from victims. This could mean that hackers will want to switch to other privacy-focused currencies such as Monero.
