Bitcoin was more popular than entrepreneur Elon Musk on Wikipedia in 2017, states the report composed by the online encyclopedia. It was the #9 most read article of the past year (the first being the article regarding deaths in 2017).

The obvious reason of this serious popularity of Bitcoin is its price dynamics during the last autumn. Bitcoin has risen from $4600 in September to $20,000 at the end of December which has made new people search more information about this phenomenon.

Other sources suggest that Bitcoin was actually the second most popular article on the same website in December 2017 amidst the aforementioned price maximum. It was only surpassed by the article on the latest movie of the Star Wars saga.

This data fully correlates with reports of search engines - Google and the Russian-based Yandex. They have also detected the spike of the popularity and public awareness of the concept in 2017.

Judging by the previous year results, the sudden rise or drop of Bitcoin can happen at the end of this year with a relatively slow-paced price motion several months prior.
