HTC to introduce Exodus - its own blockchain phone

15 May 2018 21:00, UTC

HTC will develop a new smartphone which is connected to virtual reality developers of the same company and will support blockchain technologies, TNW reports. This smartphone will be called Exodus. Former lead developer of the popular HTC Vive VR headset Phil Chen will likely oversee the process, as he has returned to the company on the post of Decentralized Chief Officer.

Reports also tell about the new cryptocurrency HTC is considering to use in connection with this phone. The name of the potential corporate altcoin is unspecified at the press time. If it becomes implemented and successful, this financial tool will likely provoke a wave of new cryptocurrencies.

Blockchain smartphones are already being produced by Sirin Labs, but the phone called FINNEY is considered overpriced by many observers. This is possible due to the lack of any alternatives, and with its vast experience in mobile phone development, HTC might swiftly change the situation. Furthermore, Sirin Labs simply do not possess such resources, which gives HTC advantage even though its blockchain-based smartphone will not be the first ever to have been created.
