GMO to introduce Bitcoin payments for in-game achievements
The Japanese company called GMO is going to implement Bitcoin rewards in the achievements system of new video games this summer, as witnessed by the reports from the region. The company does not exclude the addition of other coins over time.
Rewards in video games are given in exchange for certain activities: some achievements are unlocked after the simple progression in the story, and some require serious navigation skills or reflexes. In many cases, achievements can be changed to bonus points made either by the publisher or the developer of the game.
The pricing remains unknown at the press time, as well as how much developers would install this mechanism in their games. Whimsical War, the strategy game developed by GMO, is the only known example. GMO is also known as a big investor in mining technologies, more on this can be read in a separate material.
Cryptocurrency and in-game virtual money have been researched by Tim Clancy from Pennsylvania University on the example of products based on Unreal Engine. The graduate noted that his project requires modification.
Decentraland offers a peculiar combination of smart contracts, virtual reality and tokens, but, as clearly witnessed from the new videos on the project website, its graphics may discourage many potential players.
